Pop-off Transcript

On Friday, June 14, the City Webmaster, Bob Nowak, celebrated his 30th anniversary as a City of Houston employee.  Bob was hired by Mayor Bob Lanier's Co-Chief of Staff, the legendary and recently-departed Jimmie Schindewolf.  Bob wrote speeches and handled citizen correspondence in the pre-internet and pre-311 days for Schindewolf's other position as Director of Public Works and Engineering. In 1996, Bob co-wrote the essay that won national recognition for Infrastructure Excellence for Mayor Lanier’s Neighborhoods to Standard program, published in American City & County Magazine. In 1997, Public Works and Engineering was the first Department to administer its own content on the City website, with Bob as the Public Works Webmaster. And in October 1998, in the first year of the Lee Brown Administration, Bob became only the second City Webmaster in our history. To date, Bob has administered the websites for five mayoral administrations, five City Controllers, and seventy-six Council Members. In 2023, Bob completed 2,443 service requests for 1,449 unique webpages as City Webmaster. In an often changing professional environment, Bob is a constant. He’s had only two jobs with the City of Houston, but he’s reporting now to his 30th supervisor, and he is currently in his 17th consecutive year of perfect attendance.
